Although you can’t tell by the picture, when I stayed there it later rained for the rest of the day so me and my friend were pretty much confined within the room. It was very cold then so we just had a very nice chit-chat while wrapped in blankets.

The wooden floor and walls got really cold when it rained that day. It was very cozy and one of the best comfortable feelings I have ever felt in my life.

Sagada is still a good and safe destination during the rainy season. Just make sure you’re not going there in the middle of a typhoon because that is a different matter. Otherwise, a little rain wouldn’t hurt anybody, right?

In fact if all that you want is a quiet place to be alone to think and do something on a personal yet on a higher level (writing comes to my mind), I suggest you visit when the rain is dropping. Of course you shouldn’t expect to go hiking and caving, not unless you’re the hardcore adventurous type. Hiking you can still do but the caves are off limits when there is significant downpour.

So what are you to do? I parenthesis-ed earlier that you can do some writing. Or soul-searching. Or mend a broken heart. Whatever it is that you have to do alone. And with this I suggest you go stay at St. Joseph Inn.

Why there? Because I’ve stayed there during one rainy weekend. The rooms are made of wood that gets cold, just the right coldness. The bed is soft and the sheets look and smell very clean. And also thick enough to keep you warm during the downpour. They also have windows wide enough so you can sit by them and go on sentimental mode.

Getting all warm and sentimental are not the only reasons I’m asking you to stay there. St. Joseph Inn sits on top of a hill that it overlooks the whole Sagada town. You’ll feel as if the tips of the mountains in the horizon are just on eye-level with you. And in the morning, when the rain had stopped, you can look out your window and see the town below and pine trees and mountaintops all covered in mist.

You should relish that misty moment because by the time your watch says 8am, it gently crawls away.

Go to Sagada when the rain comes in. Summer may bring you flowers and sunshine, but the rains will give you peace and the realization that rains happen to make us better persons. After all that, you can go back to your city life all cleaned up or even feeling all brand new.
